Fades have never been more in vogue than they are today. Part of their popularity lies in their innate versatility; there are many different styles to choose from. When choosing a fade haircut, you will want to consider things like the texture of your hair, lifestyle, and even the shape of your face. With some research and the right barber, you can get the ideal fade haircut for you that will keep you looking sharp and right on trend.

1. Cropped Medium Fade

This versatile hairstyle exudes an edgy confidence from the classroom to the boardroom. It is a low maintenance and sleek cut that can camouflage a receding hairline or transform a youthful collegiate look into a professional business one. This short, textured haircut can be worn in a variety of ways. The barber will likely give you a blunt fringe, which can either be short or left longer down the forehead and can be jagged or straight. To create the medium fade, otherwise known as mid fade, the short haircut is tapered down starting from the top of the ears. As the name implies, the medium fade is somewhere between the low and the high fade, and it can give you a more professional, yet still casual and cool look, as you walk into your new job.

2. High Bald Fade

Also known as the high skin fade, this eye-catching look features a skin shave up to about two inches above the ears, at which point it will seamlessly transition into the hair on the top of the head. The high fade follows a straight line from the hairline around the back of the head. It starts up high with a slight drop as it goes down to the skin to give some shape to this otherwise super short, high and tight cut. Whether you have curly, straight, wavy, thick or thin hair, you can most definitely rock this fresh and sleek look.

3. High Fade with Pompadour

The high fade combined with the classic pompadour will keep your sides short and your hair long and high-volume on top. Because of the striking shortness on the sides, all eyes will automatically jump to the sleek textured style of the pomp. The cut is super versatile and easy to style. You can wear it slicked back or keep it loose and glossy. The high fade and line up keeps it fresh, while the pompadour makes it elegant and timeless.

4. High Razor Fade with Hair Design

Simply put, a razor fade is when the hair on the sides and back of your head is shaved. The high razor fade shaves the hair higher, creating a clean, edgy look that draws the eyes to the top of your head. Once achieved, you can combine the razor fade with a pompadour, comb over or slick back. Barbers will often use a straight razor to line up around the temples and hairline, cut a hard part or create cool hair designs. A skilled barber can do anything from creating parallel lines across your head to etching in stars and stripes. They can be simple or elaborate, deeply personal expressions or well-known symbols. You might want to scan the internet for images in order to get your own thoughts rolling about the design you want, and then speak to your barber about his or her level of artistry and ask for examples of designs they have executed in the past.

5. Undercut Fade with Hard Part and Textured Spikes

Attention-grabbing and impressive, the undercut fade is accomplished by shaving or trimming the sides to a very minimal look from the ears to the temples. The hard part adds freshness and a crisp edge to your look, which culminates with textured spikes of all varieties. This look harkens back to the 90’s but is undeniably modern. In exchange for the handfuls of hair gels which were used to create thick spikes, we now prefer to use styling products such as pomade, wax or clay to create a more natural, textured look. The spiky hair fade allows guys to keep their hair messy and relaxed, or well-groomed and more formal. The spikes work particularly well if you have wavy or curly hair.

6. Burst Fade Mohawk

The burst fade haircut trades in the traditionally spiky mohawk look for a wide faux hawk on top with a burst fade on the sides. It is a classier, cleaner, more modern take on the punk rock look of the 70’s. (Think less Sid Vicious and more Usher.) The burst fade tapers the narrow section around your ears, while the neckline is left longer. This haircut naturally lends itself to a faux hawk, which lands this hair cut on the top trendiest lists of 2022 men’s fade hairstyles.

7. Mid-High Fade

What all mid fades have in common is that the fade begins between the temple and the ears to create a smooth transition down the back and sides of the head. The mid-high haircut starts a little higher, which actually benefits wider faces if your aim is to enhance your facial features and give your face a slimmer appearance. It lends itself nicely to hair of all textures and works beautifully with voluminous hairstyles such as quiffs and curls.
